Information sources

A major site for meteorite friends, which is full of links to free private classifieds, auctions, book dealers etc., is:

   The Meteorite Exchange, URL: http://www.meteorite.com
It also offers the dealers' list, which is of crucial importance for collectors:

Equally rich information as well as private classifieds are available at:
   The Meteorite Central, URL: http://www.meteoritecentral.com

Your meteorite won't play any more or is about to die? Looks like a case for the Meteorite Doctor, he's the only one who can help there. Will stand by your site with patience, competence and plenty of good advice.

F.Heide, F.Wlotzka: Kleine Meteoritenkunde,
Heidelberg 1988, Springer Verlag.

F.Heide, F.Wlotzka: Meteorites, Messengers from Space.

G.Heinen: Tektite – Zeugen kosmischer Katastrophen

European Dealers

It may look somewhat unusual and commercially awkward to be advertising for competitors on my own site. But having often been asked for closer supply sources, in the American-dominated internet market, and knowing, for I am a collector myself, the difficulty of finding fitting suppliers, I consider it a natural service to list the most important European meteorite dealers here. If you should be missing one or the other supplier, then please let me know that contact so I can add it.
My personal estimations as to the price level and my comments have an objective founding: a comparison between all the offers of 38 meteorite dealers worldwide, which I carry out on a regular half-yearly basis.

Walter Zeitschel is a collector of considerable international renown.
Interesting mainly for rarer classes and for localities which are otherwise hard to find on the market. - At very decent prices!

Dieter Heinlein

Dieter Heinlein, known in the German speaking countries as the head of the department "Meteorites" of the Vereinigung der Sternfreunde e.V. ('Association of the Friends of the Stars'), always has a little assortment on display, at prices that, altogether, are somewhat below average.

All prices are below, some far below average, many of them are absolute lowest prices. All in all, the Haiderer couple are the cheapest suppliers on the market and should therefore be the first address on the net for all collectors.

Switzerland

Swiss Meteorite Lab. (SML)

The SML is headed by expert and author (cf. above) Rolf W. Bühler, the proceeds go to the Schweizerisches Meteoriten- und Mineralienmuseum Schönenwerd (Swiss Meteorite and Minerals Museum).
Wide and differentiated offer. Unbalanced pricing. Tends to be somewhat more expensive for the most usual meteorites. Many rare localities at often very fair prices, also some very good offers for the rarer categories. Regular special offers of historic fells and meteorites which almost never come into the market, at incredibly interesting conditions.

The Labenne familiy are well-known specialists for Sahara finds.
Immense store! On their website, however, only the highlights are presented: Rare and rarest categories, among these R and angrite, and some of the historically most important meteorites. In the rare categories often interesting prices (for the others there are no possibilities of comparison, as the Labennes are the only ones worldwide to offer them). For desert finds of ordinary chondrites, they are the cheapest suppliers on the market, because they have them first hand. Advantageous discounts. Highly recommendable.

Chasseurs de Météorites

Likewise specialised in desert finds. Rare categories, too. I haven't carried out the comparison of prices yet, as these are communicated on demand only. The prices for the three classic localities on offer are partly low.

Helps for Search, Purchase and Exchange

If you are looking for a particular meteorite and your search has so far been futile, then I might be able to help you with my comprehensive comparative list and refer you to the cheapest supplier (free of charge).
And if you'd like to offer or swap a meteorite yourself and aren't quite sure about its value, then I will be glad to let you know the current collectors' price.
Furthermore I buy meteorites myself and pay them above traders' prices.
I also like to swap, offering value compensations, if applicable.

I am always there for your suggestions, complaints, offers, queries, and am particularly grateful for any hints about cheap sources of meteorites and historic star maps:
